How to Get a Driving License in Gujarat?

The commissioner of transport of Gujarat is responsible for comprehending a swift and easy public transport system that also includes issuance of learner's license, permanent driving license, international driving license and others.

A car insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle registered at Gujarat RTO as per The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.

Types of Driving License in Gujarat

Eligibility Criteria for Getting Driving License in Gujarat

  • For two-wheelers without gear with an engine capacity of 50 cc or less, an applicant should have completed 16 years

  • For two-wheelers with/without gear, tractor, car and non-transport vehicle, an applicant should have completed 18 years of age.

  • For transport vehicles, an applicant should have completed 20 years of age. Also, for such vehicle type, an applicant should have passed class 8 and should have had an experience of driving a light motor vehicle for at least one year.

Documents Required for Getting Driving License in Gujarat

For obtaining a driving license in Gujarat, you will need to submit the below documents at your nearest RTO office in the state.

  • In order to get a driving license in Gujarat, first, you will have to get a learner's license

How to Get a Driving License in Gujarat?

In case you want to apply for a driving license in Gujarat, then here is what you need to do. As per the rules and regulations of the Gujarat Transport Government, you will have to follow the below procedure.

Examination Procedure for Getting a Driving License

To obtain a driving license in Gujarat, an applicant will have to appear for an online test to answer questions related to traffic regulations and signals.

To pass the test, an applicant will have to give the correct answer for at least 11 questions out of 15 questions asked.

48 seconds are given to answer each question and an applicant can reappear for the test within 24 hours on failing the test.

An applicant looking to add an additional category of vehicle in the existing driving license is not required to appear for an online test.

Driving test procedure:

30 days after procuring a learning license, an applicant can appear for a driving test.

The driving test is conducted on the same vehicle type for which the applicant has applied for.

An applicant can book a slot for driving test through this link: drivingtesttrack.in/getappointment.htm. For booking the driving test online, the applicant will have to enter his learning license number and date of birth.

How to Apply for Duplicate Driving License in Gujarat?

If your driving license is torn, misplaced or stolen, then you can apply for a duplicate driving license in Gujarat.

Application form L.L.D is to be submitted along with details of the original driving license

In case the license is stolen, then an FIR needs to be registered and a copy has to be submitted to the RTO office.

In case an applicant needs a change in any particulars such as name change, address change, etc, then a fee of Rs. 200 is to be paid for the same.

If the applicant has forgotten the number mentioned on his smart card DL, then he can procure the same information by making an application stating his name, address, number, date of birth, etc. For this, he will have to pay a fee of Rs. 25.

For getting a duplicate driving license, an applicant also has to submit an N.O.C from the RTO that issued his original driving license.

Renewal of Driving License in Gujarat

On expiry, a grace period of 30 days is provided for renewal of driving license in Gujarat.

An applicant is not required to appear for a driving test if he applies for renewal of DL within 5 years from the date of expiry. The license is valid from the date of renewal.

If the applicant is more than 50 years of age or is applying for renewal of a transport vehicle, then form 1(A) (medical certificate) has to be submitted.

Renewal of driving license form-form 9 has to be submitted along with the original driving license.

If the application is made within a period of 30 days, then a fee of Rs. 50 is to be paid. In case of smart card DL, Rs. 200 is to be paid as fees. In case of delay, an additional charge of Rs. 50 is to be paid.

NOC (No Objection Certificate) has to be submitted in case the DL is issued from another state.

How to get an International driving license in Gujarat?

To obtain a driving license in Gujarat, an applicant will have to follow the below process:

  • Submit form 4 (A) i.e. application form for an international driving license and form 1(A) i.e. medical certificate.
  • Documents such as a copy of existing DL, the copy of passport, visa and three passport size photographs have to be submitted.
  • An international driving permit is issued for a period of 1 year or until the expiry of the current driving license, whichever is earlier.
  • An international driving license cannot be renewed after expiry and one also cannot avail a duplicate international DL.
  • A Fee of Rs.500 For obtaining an International driving license, an applicant will have to report to the RTO in person.

Procedure for adding another category in driving license

The below-mentioned categories can be added to your existing driving license:

  • Transport vehicle in L.M.V vehicles
  • Authorization of transport vehicles
  • Any other additional category for two wheeler
  • Hazardous goods in transport driving license

Transport vehicle in L.M.V vehicles

For adding transport vehicle in case of a light motor vehicle, an applicant should meet the below requirements:

  • Applicant should be aged 20 years or above.
  • Should have passed class 8 and have at least one year of experience in driving any light motor vehicle.
  • Form No.8 i.e. form for addition of a new class of vehicle to a driving license and form 5 i.e. driving certificate issued by a driving school or establishment
  • The original driving license needs to be submitted
  • Rs. 200 is to be paid as fees

Authorization of transport vehicles

  • T.V.A form to be filled and submitted
  • Training certificate obtained from any state/central government has to be submitted
  • The endorsement is valid for a period of 1 year
  • Rs. 50 is to be paid as fees Any Other Additional Category for Two Wheelers
  • An application form no.8 along with the original driving license
  • The applicant can take the driving test 30 days after receiving the learner's license
  • Rs. 200 is to be paid as fees
