Driving License in Madhya Pradesh

A driving license is provided in the state of Madhya Pradesh to allow its citizens to legally drive a motor vehicle on public roads. The state transport department of Madhya Pradesh is entrusted with the responsibility of providing driving licenses to the citizens of the state. The Madhya Pradesh RTO issues driving licenses, learner’s license, duplicate driving license, international driving license, etc.

Eligibility Criteria for obtaining a driving license in Madhya Pradesh

To be able to procure a driving license in the state of Madhya Pradesh, an applicant has to meet the following eligibility criteria.

  • An applicant should have completed 18 years of age
  • The applicant should possess a learner’s license
  • The applicant should apply for a DL 30 days after getting the learner’s license
  • The applicant should apply for a DL within 180 days from the date of issue of the learner’s license.

  • An applicant for driving license will have to visit the nearest RTO website and submit form 4 and the other relevant documents.
  • The applicant will then have to give a driving test on the basis of which he will be issued a driving license.
  • If the applicant passes the test, he will have to give his biometrics and the license will be sent to him via post at his registered address.

How to apply for driving license online in Madhya Pradesh?

  • Technological advancement has made it easy for individuals to obtain a driving license online. The Madhya Pradesh state transport department lets an applicant apply for a driving license online.
  • In this process, the applicant will have to visit the www.mptransport.org/MPTS/Default.htm website and click on ‘license appointment’ tab on the homepage.
  • Then the applicant will have to click on fresh driving license and enter his learning license number and date of birth.
  • Following this, the applicant will then have to fill out a form and submit it along with the relevant documents.
  • This form has to be downloaded and a printout has to be taken and carried to the RTO to give the driving test.

How to get a Duplicate Driving License in Madhya Pradesh?

If your license is stolen, misplaced or torn, then you can apply for a duplicate driving license in Madhya Pradesh by following the below steps.

Getting a duplicate DL in case it’s stolen:

  • In case if the license is stolen, the applicant will have to first file an FIR and submit the copy of the same at the RTO office.
  • If the applicant remembers the DL number, then he will have to mention the same in the duplicate driving license application form LLD.
  • Form 1A i.e. physical fitness form
  • In case of duplicate driving license form for a commercial vehicle, a challan clearance report has to be obtained from the traffic police department.
  • Application fees of Rs. 200
  • Along with the above documents, the applicant will also have to submit his age and address proofs.
  • All the above documents have to be photocopied and attested by notary public or a gazetted officer.

Note: If the applicant does not remember his license number, then he will have to apply for a new driving license from the same RTO that first issued him the DL. An applicant can also apply for duplicate driving license online by visiting the website www.mptransport.org/MPTS/Default.htm and clicking on license appointment tab on the homepage and then clicking on the duplicate/lost tab. On doing this, the applicant will then have to enter his license number and date of birth.

Driving License Renewal in Madhya Pradesh

Ideally, a driving license is valid for a period of 20 years or until the age of 50, whichever is earlier. Just like your car insurance renewal, your driving license is also subjected to renewal or on before its expiry. Here’s how you can renew your driving license in the Madhya Pradesh

Documents required for renewing a driving license for private vehicle

  • Form 1 i.e. form for the declaration of physical fitness
  • Form 9 i.e. form for renewal of driving license
  • Original driving license
  • 3 passport size photographs
  • Age and address proof documents

Documents required for renewing the driving license for a commercial vehicle

  • Form 1A i.e. medical certificate form
  • Refresher training certificate
  • Age and address proof documents
  • Form 9 and form 1
  • 3 passport size photocopies
  • Copy of the original driving license

For renewal of a driving license, all the above documents have to be submitted to the RTO office. In case of private vehicle DL renewal, the renewed driving license is issued on the same day. But in case of DL for commercial vehicle, the DL is sent to the registered address of the applicant. An applicant can also apply for renewal of driving license online by visiting the website www.mptransport.org/MPTS/Default.htm and clicking on license appointment tab on the homepage and then clicking on the DL-renewal tab. For the online renewal process, the applicant will have to enter his driving license number and date of birth.

Note: For renewal of DL, all the photocopies of the documents have to be attested by the notary public or a gazetted officer.

Also, if the applicant has changed his state or city, then a no objection certificate has to be obtained from the RTO that issued his original DL.

How to get an International driving license in Madhya Pradesh?

If an individual wishes to drive a motor vehicle overseas then he can apply for an International driving license that will give him the legal freedom to drive his vehicle on foreign land.

An International driving license can be obtained by an individual from any RTO office in Madhya Pradesh. The individual will have to furnish the below documents to get an International driving license in Madhya Pradesh.

  • Attested copy of the permanent driving license
  • Attested copy of visa and passport
  • 5 passport size photographs
  • Attested copy of age and address proof
  • Nationality proof
  • Medical form 1-A and form 4-A
  • A Fee of Rs.500

Test Procedure for Obtaining a Driving License in Madhya Pradesh

A learner’s license is valid for a period of 6 months. An individual can apply for a driving license 30 days after the learner’s license is issued. An applicant has to take his own vehicle or a vehicle provided by a motor school at the RTO office to give the driving test. The driving test is conducted in presence of an RTO inspector who declares the result of the driving test.

Driving test procedure for two-wheeler and three-wheeler: For procuring a driving license for a two-wheeler or three-wheeler, an applicant will have to pass the ‘eight-figure test’ wherein he will have to ride the motor vehicle without letting his feet touch the ground.

Driving test procedure for four-wheeler: For procuring a driving license for a two wheeler or three-wheeler, an applicant will have to pass the ‘H’ test wherein he will have to ride the motor vehicle and display his driving skills.

After the driving test, the applicant’s knowledge regarding traffic rules and regulations will be checked.

If the RTO official conducting the test is satisfied with the results, then the driving license will be delivered at the applicant’s registered address within 2-3 weeks. If the applicant fails the test, then he can re-appear for the test within a period of 1 week.
