SBI critical illness policy is the solution to your worries for financial cover for critical illness. SBI critical illness policy offers coverage against 13 deadly critical illness and eases the financial burden from the insured and his/her family.

The plan offers adequate coverage of INR 50, 00,000 for treating critical illnesses.

The policy offers 15 days of free look period to the policyholder.

Tax Benefits

The premium paid for the policy can be used for tax exemption under the provisions of Section 80D of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

Medical Check- Up

As per the medical history, sum insured and age, the applicant may have to undertake medical exam for enrolment. The company will reimburse 50% of medical bill if the applicant passes the medical test eligibility and enrols in the policy.

Waiting Period

There is a waiting period of 90 days before the insured can put claim under the policy.

Benefits of SBI Critical Illness Policy

Sum Insured

The minimum coverage in the policy is INR 2,00,000 and maximum is INR 50,00,000, subject to conditions. Individuals above the age of 60 years buying a policy for the first time will be entitled to a maximum coverage of INR 15,00,000.

Premium charges may vary as per the age, the sum insured and plan option selected.

There are two plan options with regards to the policy tenure i.e. 1 year and 3 years in this SBI critical illness policy.

Tax Benefits in SBI Critical Illness Policy

The premium paid for SBI Critical Illness plan can be used for tax deduction up to a limit of INR 50,000 as per the provisions mentioned in Section 80D of the Income Tax Act, 1961. It is to be noted that tax laws are revised from time to time. The applicant should consult the financial advisor to know the current income tax deductions and benefits at the time of buying the health insurance policy.

What is Covered in SBI Critical Illness Policy?

The SBI Critical Illness Policy offers coverage to the insured against 13 critical illness as mentioned below, anytime during the course of the active policy term. The benefit is payable on the condition that the insured is alive for a period of 28 days or as specifically stated in the survival period policy.

  • Cancer of listed severity
  • Open Chest Bag
  • Aorta Graft Surgery
  • Open Heart surgery or repair of heart valves
  • Stroke Resulting in Permanent Symptoms
  • First Heart Attack of Specified Severity
  • Kidney Failure Requiring Regular Dialysis
  • Primary Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
  • Major Organ/ Bone Marrow Transplant
  • Multiple Sclerosis with Persisting Symptoms

What is Not Covered in SBI Critical Illness Policy?

The following are the exclusions applicable to this policy and no benefit amount will be paid by the insurance company for the following conditions or circumstances as mentioned below:

  • Pre- Existing disease and related complications.
  • Waiting period of 90 days from the date of commencement of the policy.
  • Any hereditary Illness or conditions.
  • Self-inflicted injury or suicide, whether mentally sane or insane
  • Sexually transmitted conditions, nervous or mental disorder, AIDS, HIV infection
  • Being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicants or hallucinogens unless advised by Doctor

Documents Required To Buy SBI Critical Illness Policy

Following are the documents required to buy SBI Critical Illness Policy

  • Proof of Age: The applicant has to provide the age proof of all the persons who will be getting covered with the health insurance policy. Below are the acceptable documents for this:

    • Birth certificate
    • 10th or 12th mark sheet
    • Passport
    • Aadhaar card
    • Voting ID
    • Driving license
    • PAN card etc.
  • Identity Proof: The applicant can provide any of the following identity proof:

    • Aadhaar card

  • Address Proof: The applicant will be required to submit his/her permanent proof of address. You can submit any of the following documents for the same:

  • The applicant will be required to go for a medical in the following circumstances

    • If the individual buying the SBI critical illness plan has adverse medical history as mentioned in the application form.
    • If the individual is above the age of 45 years, irrespective of sum insured availed in the plan.

Easy Procedure to Renew SBI Critical Illness Policy

Critical illness policy can either be issued for a period of 1 Year or 3 Years as per the plan option selected. The policy with 3 year duration can be renewed till the age of 57 years only. Beyond the age of 57 years of age, all renewals will be allowed for 1 year duration only.

The policy can be renewed online on the official website of SBI General Insurance or by visiting any of the branches of SBI general insurance. The nearest branch’s location details can be found on the website of SBI General Insurance.

What Is Claim Procedure For SBI Critical Illness Policy

The claim will be successful only if the insured survives the survival period, which is 28 days or more from the date of first diagnosis.

  • The insured or the claimant needs to inform SBI general insurance company of the claim through the website, calling customer service or visiting a local SBI General Insurance Branch.
  • The SBI Claim Manager or Executive will get in touch within 24 hours of registering the claim.
  • The claimant will be required to fill the claim process and submit the relevant documents supporting the claim like Doctor’s report, Diagnosis report, original policy document etc.
  • The insurance company will verify the document and accordingly pass the claim as per the terms and conditions of the claim process.
  • SBI General Insurance Company will start the claim process and all valid claims shall be settled within 30 days of receipt of final survey report or the last relevant document submitted, as the case may be under the provisions of IRDAI policyholder’s interest regulation, 2017.
