Srinagar RTO was established as per the provisions of Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.The department is headed by the Transport Commissioner. The RTO of Srinagar provides an organised public transport system in the city of Srinagar. Its fundamental task is to implement various transport provisions that fall under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and J&K Motor Vehicle Rules, 1991.
A car insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle registered at Srinagar RTO as per The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
