The RTO office of Asansol was established under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The department deals with regulatory and enforcement functions assigned to it to carry out transport related matters.
The RTO department is headed by the Transport Commissioner and is responsible for carrying out organised public transport system in the city of Asansol which comes under West Bengal Transport Department.
A car insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle registered at Asansol RTO as per The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
