UIDAI Aadhaar Card Services

Since Aadhaar card is now a necessary document for both identity and address verification, the UIDAI provides services that are more than just issuing the Aadhaar number to the residents of India.

The main objective of issuing Aadhaar card to the citizens is the portability of identification on a unified platform. Therefore, with UIDAI platform, residents can expeditiously authenticate identity verification.

The UIDAI has its headquarters in New Delhi and was established in January 2009. Their vision is to provide a unique identity and a digital platform anywhere and at any time. Aadhaar Authentication literally means the process by the Aadhaar number along with the demographic information or biometric information of Aadhaar number holder is submitted to the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR). They then verify the correctness or lack of thereof on the basis of information available with it.

Types of Aadhaar card services available

Verifying Aadhaar Number

The Aadhaar card holders can verify their Aadhaar by following the steps given below:

Step1: Visit their official website - www.uidai.gov.in and click on Verify Aadhaar Number.
Step2: Clicking on that will land you on resident.uidai.gov.in/aadhaarverification where you can enter your 12-digit UID number in the provided box.
Step3: Enter the security code in the box.
Step4: In case the Aadhaar number you entered is not correct, you can reset by clicking on the 'Reset' button at the top right-hand corner of the page.
Step5: The cardholders will be able to see if the Aadhaar number is active or not. In addition to this, the page will also provide information about the cardholder's age, gender, registered mobile number etc.

Verifying Email/Mobile Number

The UIDAI services allow the cardholders to verify their email address and mobile number declared at the time of enrolment. Therefore, to verify your email address and mobile number provided at the time of Aadhaar enrolment, one has to visit UIDAI's official website www.uidai.gov.in and follow the below procedure.

Click Verify email address and mobile number on www.uidai.gov.in and select the Verify Email/Mobile Number' option.
Enter your Aadhaar UID number in the box provided.
Enter your registered email address or mobile number.
Enter the security code in the provided box.
Click on get OTP.

Biometric Locking/Unlocking

The Unique Identification Authority of India has come up with Biometrics where the Aadhaar card holders can lock their biometrics through this service. This service is useful and will keep the data safe from any kind of misuse. Once locked, no one will be able to use the UID for authentication. Apart from locking, the cardholders can also temporarily unlock their biometric through this Aadhaar service. Following is the procedure to lock/unlock Biometrics:

Visit the official website www.uidai.gov.in and select Lock/Unlock Biometrics.
Post which it will land you on resident.uidai.gov.in/biometric-lock where you can complete the rest of the procedure.
You need to enter your Aadhaar UID/VID number.
Enter the security code mentioned.
Click on Get OTP.
An OPT will be sent on your registered mobile number.
Post which you need to enter the OTP sent, in the box provided on the right-hand side of the page.

Bank Account Linking Status

Now cardholders can check their bank account linking status on the UIDAI website by following the given steps:

First, select ‘Check Aadhaar & Bank Account Linking Status’ on UIDAI website - www.uidai.gov.in
It will take you to a page resident.uidai.gov.in/bank-mapper where you can enter your Aadhaar UID/VID number.
Then, enter security Code.
Enter the OTP sent on your registered number.
Once the OTP is authenticated, the UIDAI will fetch details about the status from National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) portal and provide you with the updated status.

Aadhaar Authentication History

This service allows you to see details of authentications done through Aadhaar card. To view the Aadhaar authentication history, one has to follow the below given steps:

Enter your UID/ VID number
Enter the security code
Click on ‘Generate OTP’

How to register mobile number with UIDAI online?

You cannot register your mobile number with UIDAI online, one has to visit the nearest Permanent Aadhaar Centre (PAC) to do the same.

How to check your mobile number registered with UIDAI?

In case you want to verify/check your registered mobile number with UIDAI, you need to log in to www.uidai.gov.in and choose Verify Email/Mobile Number.

How to update mobile number with UIDAI online?

To update your mobile number online, one has to visit UIDAI's website or the direct link ssup.uidai.gov.in/web/guest/update . A page with title Aadhaar Self Service Update portal will open. You will need to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, send text verification and click on Send OTP. Post which, a new page will ask you for details to be updated; select field and select mobile number. Now enter your mobile number and click submit and update.

How to update the account with UIDAI online without mobile number?

One cannot update account without registered mobile number online.
