• The applicant can apply for a permanent driving license after 30 days and within 180 days from the date of obtaining the learner’s license.

How to apply for a driving license online in Chandigarh?

• Visit chdtransport.gov.in/Webpages/Regular_Licence_CL.aspx and download the application form
• Fill the form and submit it along with all the relevant documents to the RLA office.
• You can also submit the forms and the documents online at parivahan.gov.in
• On submitting the documents and form online through parivahan.gov.in , you will receive an application number which you will have to present at the time of DL test.
• Take the driving license test.
• If you pass the test, collect your file or receipt from the examiner
• You driving license will then be dispatched to you via speed post at your registered address.

How to apply for a driving license offline in Chandigarh?

• Visit the RLA office and collect the form
• Fill the form and submit it with the documents
• Appear for the driving test and on passing the test, your driving license will be sent to the address mentioned in the application form.

In Chandigarh, a driving licence is valid for 20 years or until the age of 50, whichever is earlier. After the date of expiry, a DL issued in Chandigarh is subjected to renewal, and for its renewal, an applicant will have to follow the below mentioned procedure. • Take the print out of the acknowledgment generated online and visit the RLA office along with the duly filled form and documents.
• On verification of the documents, a fee receipt will be provided and then the applicant will have to visit the photo studio at the RLA office to record biometrics and get a photograph clicked.
• An application fee of Rs. 420 has to be paid.
• The applicant will then receive the renewed driving license via speed post.

Steps for renewal of driving license offline/ RLA office in Chandigarh

• Collect the application form from the RLA office.
• Fill the form and submit it along with the relevant documents.
• On verification of the documents, a fee receipt will be handed to the applicant.
• The applicant will have to get a photograph clicked and his biometrics will be recorded. This has to be done at the photo studio at the RLA office.
• An application fee of Rs. 420 has to be paid.
• The renewed driving license will be dispatched at the applicant’s registered address.

The applicant will have to pay an additional fee of Rs. 50 per year for late renewal of the driving license.

Rule 15 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1989 states that an applicant has to pass the ‘Test of Competence Test’ to obtain a driving license. In the Union Territory of Chandigarh, a driving test is conducted as per the rule of MVA and below is the procedure mentioned for the same.

The applicant is expected to display his driving skills by successfully driving along the test tracks by following the road signs and markings done on the track. Applicant will have to drive along various curves, incline and decline features, T-intersections, reverse from a blind alley and others. The driving test is conducted in the presence of the Motor Vehicle Inspector on whose satisfaction the driving license will be issued to the applicant.
