Driving License in Manipur

You must first own a driving license to legally drive your motor vehicle in India. The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 makes it mandatory for every vehicle owner to hold a driving license to freely move his vehicle on Indian roads. As per the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, both a licence and third party insurance are a must if you want to drive or ride legally in India.

• To apply for a motorcycle with an engine capacity not exceeding 50cc, the candidate should be aged 16 years or above.
• To apply for a motorcycle with gear, the candidate should be aged 18 years or above.
• To apply for a heavy motor vehicle DL, the candidate should be aged 20 years or above.
• The candidate should apply for a driving license in Manipur after 30 days from the date of issuance of the learner’s license.
• Driving license is given only on the basis of the class of vehicle for which the learner’s license is availed for.

The state of Manipur lets you obtain a driving license in an easy way as you can simply apply for it online by following the below mentioned procedure:

• Visit parivahan.gov.in and click on driving online services and select driving license related services.
• Select Manipur as the name of the state.
• Click on apply online and then select new driving license.
• Again, select the name of the state and then click on continue.
• Fill in the application details and then upload the documents online.
• You will receive an application number which you will have to submit at the time of submitting documents at the RTO.
• Visit the RTO office with your original documents and then pay the fees.

You can also apply for a driving license offline in Manipur by following the below-mentioned steps:

• Visit the nearest RTO
• Collect the application form 4 or form 5 (in case of commercial vehicle)
• Fill the form and submit it along with the relevant documents
• Pay the application fees
• Book a slot for your driving test to be conducted
• Appear for the driving test on the given time and date

The validity of a non-transport vehicle in Manipur is 20 years or until the age of 50, whichever is early for the applicant. The renewed DL issued to the applicant is valid for 5 years. The validity of the DL for a commercial vehicle is for 3 years, post which a renewed DL will be issued for the same for a period of 1 year. The applicant is required to renew the DL within 30 days from the date of expiry.

Procedure for applying for renewal of Driving License in Manipur :

• An applicant can apply for renewal of driving license through parivahan.gov.in. The applicant can fill and submit the form online and can also upload the documents and pay the fees online.

• If not the online process, application for renewal can also be done offline by visiting the nearest RTO and collecting the form from there. The form can also be downloaded online through Manipur Transport website, manipurtransport.in/download-forms/

• After filling the form, the applicant will have to submit the same along with the relevant documents. If the applicant has applied for renewal of DL online, then he will have to visit the RTO with the relevant documents. On verification of the documents, the renewed DL will be issued to the applicant via speed post.

To obtain a driving license in Manipur, an applicant will have to pass the driving license (DL) test which will be conducted in presence of a motor vehicles inspector. The applicant will be allowed to appear for the test, only after 30 days from the date of issuance of the learner’s license. The test is conducted to test the driving skills of the applicant and to understand whether he is well aware of the traffic rules and the vehicle he is driving. The applicant will also be asked several questions related to road safety. If the applicant fails the test, then he can reappear for the test after a period of 7 days. If the applicant fails the test on 3 consecutive occasions, then he will be allowed to reappear for the test only after a period of 60 days.
