The PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi Yojana is a Government of India initiative providing annual income support of ₹6,000 (in three ₹2,000 instalments) to all landholding farmer families to meet their agricultural and domestic needs, directly transferring funds to their bank accounts via DBT to strengthen financial stability and promote better farming practices.
PM-KISAN is a Central Sector scheme fully funded by the Government of India, which became operational from 1 December 2018 and was formally launched in February 2019. The scheme provides ₹6,000 per year as income support to land-holding farmer families (husband, wife and minor children), paid in three equal instalments directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Eligible farmers are identified by State Governments and UT administrations, with defined exclusion categories to ensure targeted support. As per the official portal, the scheme has so far covered over 9.71 crore farmers across the country.
For the 2026-27 financial year, the Government of India has allocated approximately ₹60,000 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, reaffirming its commitment to provide consistent income support to farmers. As part of ongoing efforts to stabilise and streamline beneficiary coverage, the scheme has strengthened its Aadhaar-based beneficiary verification and payments system. Under this enhanced framework:
e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) completion is mandatory for all registered beneficiaries to continue receiving upcoming instalments of the annual ₹6,000 support; farmers must ensure their Aadhaar-based e-KYC is completed to avoid interruption of benefits.
PM-KISAN is being better integrated with wider digital agriculture initiatives, including linkage with Aadhaar and farmer identity verification systems, to ensure that 100 % of eligible farmers are captured in a federated digital database and receive benefits efficiently.
A flagship farmer welfare initiative of the Government of India that delivers assured income support through a fully digital and transparent system.

The government has also emphasised PM-KISAN 2.0 with enhanced digital integration and linkages to broader agricultural support frameworks.
