How to Download ITR-V Acknowledgement?

Filing your taxes is an important duty of every earning citizen of India. Although there are multiple forms involved in the entire process of income tax payment, in this article we will focus on ITR-V.

What is ITR-V?

ITR-V stands for Income Tax Return Verification. The Income Tax Department of India has created this for taxpayers to verify the legitimacy of their e-filing. If you are a taxpayer who files their taxes without a digital signature, you will be required to download ITR-V. The ITR-V acts as an acknowledgement slip which can be used by a taxpayer for verification purposes.

It is very easy and simple to download your ITR-V. You can download it online from the official website of the Income Tax Department, Government of India from the comfort of your home and office.

Steps for downloading ITR-V from the website of the Income Tax Department

You can follow these steps below:

Visit the official website of the Income Tax Department of India and login using your credentials.
Click on the View Returns/Forms option to see your e-filed tax returns.
Select the acknowledgement number to download the ITR-V. You also have the option to e-verify your income tax account. To e-verify, select the option ‘Click here to view your returns pending for e-verification’.
After e-verification, select the option ITR-V/Acknowledgement to begin the download.
The following file will be downloaded as a locked PDF document, which requires a standard password for access.
The password is your Permanent Account Number followed by your date of birth.

Now that you have the document, simply print and sign the document and mail it to the Central Processing Centre Bengaluru within 120 days from the date of e-filing. The address of CPC Bengaluru is Centralized Processing Center, Income Tax Department, Bengaluru - 560500.

Note: The ITR-V is a single page document, which you need to sign in BLUE INK and send via ordinary post or speed post. You cannot courier the ITR-V.

ITR-V Submission vs EVC Verification

If you do not want to e-verify, you do not have to send the physical ITV-R as mentioned above. EVC stands for Electronic Verification Code. It helps you e-verify your ITR-V.

Steps to e-verify your tax returns:

Login to incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in with your registered ID and Password.
Click on the View Returns/Forms option to see your e-filed tax returns.
Select the e-verify option.
Next, there will be a list of modes for generating an EVC - via net banking, demat/bank account number, Aadhaar, e-filing OTP.
Select your preferred choice, enter the CVC and click on submit.
Post submission, a confirmation message will be displayed with a transaction ID and EVC. You can simply download this document and keep it for future reference.
