Chandigarh RTO

The Chandigarh RTO was established under the section 213(1) of Motor vehicles act, 1988. The Transport Department, Chandigarh Administration is assigned with the accountability of providing an efficient public transportation system, control of vehicular pollution, registration of vehicles, issuance of driving licenses, issuance of various permits, and collection of road taxes.

The core function of Chandigarh RTO is to implement the provisions laid under the motor vehicles act,1988, Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1990 and Chandigarh Motor Vehicle Rules, 1990. There is a Registering and Licensing authority that issues driving licenses and a State Transport Authority that issues registration certificate and permits.

A car insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle registered at Chandigarh RTO as per The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
