The Kannur RTO ensures the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The Transport Department of Kannur ensures the regulation of road transport and safety related matters.

The Kannur RTO Department is headed by the transport commissioner and is responsible for public transport system in the city of Kannur, Kerala. It includes primary function of issuing permits, license, RC, NOC, fitness certificate, and tax collection.
