The Transport Department of Vadodara is responsible for providing an effective public transportation system, controlling vehicle pollution, registration of vehicles in Vadodara, issuance of Driving licenses, issuance of various permits, and road taxes collection.
The Transport Department of Vadodara is headed by the Transport Commissioner who is also Head of the Transport Department.
A vehicle insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle registered at Vadodara RTO as per The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
Registration: Transport Dept. of Vadodara involves in temporary registration, permanent registration, refresh registration, copying the registration certificate, ownership replacement, no objection certificate (NOC), vehicle change, matter to enter a higher purchase order, the matter of cancellation of the Higher Purchase, district code number, details of showing on the vehicle, permission to change the vehicle, regarding canceling / canceling the registration, regarding getting relief for vehicles with over-dimensional vehicles, registration of different types of all public and private vehicles.

Safety: Ensuring safety of all the vehicles plying on the road, safety measure for the driver and occupants, for example: wearing seat belts and helmet, trafficking of many different types of goods carriage vehicles carrying chemicals, regulating stage carriage on routes as mentioned under Section 111 of the Gujarat State Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
Implementation: Implementation of possession of vehicles to the owner of the vehicle, vehicle holder's duties and rights, implementation of punishments for crimes as per the provisions of section 101 of the Act, 1973, for the violation of rules, regulation or notification of the provisions of this Act.
Statistical information: Keeping track of all vehicles related data: vehicles registered in the RTO / ARTO office, such as vehicle registration book, fitness certificates, PUC certificates, permits, driving licenses, etc.
