As no two individuals have the same demographic and biometric details, it ensures the uniqueness of every Aadhaar Number. This is collected by the statutory authority called UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India). It was formed by the Government of India in January 2009, especially for the purpose of generating the 12-digit identification number for every Indian resident. UIDAI operates under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, according to the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, benefits and services) Act, 2016. Though an Aadhaar Card establishes identity and is a proof of residence within India, enrolment under it is not compulsory. In case of the inability to submit the necessary proof of identity and residential address, mentioning the credentials of the HUF (Hindu Undivided Family) or introducer is mandatory
Signature or thumbprint of the applicant, which is a mandatory field
