How to Link Aadhaar Card with EPF Account

Linking your 12 digit aadhaar number to your Employee Provident Fund (EPF) has many advantages, especially for those employees who intend to withdraw money from their EPF account. A PF scheme, also known as a Provident Fund, is a plan where the employee and the employer jointly contribute towards a corpus fund which is received by an employee on retirement. The EPF account is represented through a Universal Account Number (UAN). Essentially the UAN has to be seeded with an aadhaar card to link the PF to it.

Note: It is mandatory for employees to link their aadhaar card with their Universal Account Number (UAN). This has been established by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

So if you have a UAN number, you can link your EPF account with an aadhaar card, online as well as offline.

Linking Aadhaar with Your EPF Account Online

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) provides an online facility of linking your aadhaar with your PF through their web page - Unified Portal of Employees' Provident Fund.

Follow these steps to link your PF to your aadhaar card:

  1. Visit the Unified Portal of Employees' Provident Fund webpage - unifiedportal.epfindia.gov.in.
  2. Select the ‘UAN Member e-Sewa’ link under the ‘For Employees’ tab.
  3. Login with your UAN id and password.
  4. Under the ‘Manage’ tab, select the ‘KYC’ option.
  5. It will direct you to a page where you find tabs to upload a number of documents to link with your EPF account.
  6. Select the tab which states ‘Aadhaar’
  7. Fill in your name and aadhaar card number correctly and click ‘Save’
  8. Post this, your aadhaar number will be verified with UIDAI’s database
  9. After the successful approval of the KYC document by the employer and UIDAI, the EPF account gets linked to the aadhaar card
  10. You can check the status as ‘Verified’ will be written next to your card number

Linking Aadhaar with Your EPF Account Offline

Undertaking the option of linking aadhaar with your EPF account offline will require the cardholder to be physically present at any of the EPFO’s branches or Common Service Centres. You are required to submit an application in person with a self-attested photocopy of your aadhaar card. It can be done easily by following these simple steps:

  1. Visit the EPFO branch and fill in the ‘Aadhaar Seeding Application Form’
  2. Carefully fill in the requested aadhaar card number and UAN details
  3. Submit the application form with the self-attested copies of your PAN, UAN and Aadhaar card.
  4. Post verification, your aadhaar card will be linked to your EPF account
  5. You will get a notification on your registered mobile number for the same

Benefits of Linking Aadhaar with EPF account?

  • Since the aadhaar card holds relevant information regarding the identity, linking it with an EPF account reduces the chances of errors with your EPF and UAN
  • Prevents misuse in the form of a duplicate account. An employee can only have a single EPF or a UAN account linked to an aadhaar card
  • Once linked, a cardholder can withdraw money without the employer’s permission
  • It becomes easier to verify your details if you link your aadhaar card with EPF account as it contains all your biometrics and demographic information
