Driving License in Mangalore

A driving license in Mangalore is an integral document to hold in order to drive a motor vehicle in public areas of the city. The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 makes it mandatory for an individual to hold a DL to be able to drive his vehicle freely in India. • Click on apply online and select new driving license
• Fill the applicant details
• Upload documents
• Upload photo and signature, if required
• Book a slot for the DL test
• On passing the test, the DL is delivered at the applicant’s doorstep

Offline application process to obtain a driving license in Mangalore

Application for a driving license in Mangalore can be made offline by following the process mentioned below.

• Visit the nearest RTO office
• Collect the application form or download the form online through Karnataka Motor Vehicles Department Website- transport.karnataka.gov.in.
• Fill the form with appropriate details
• Submit the form and the relevant documents to the RTO office
• Schedule a slot for the driving test
• Appear for the DL test on the given date and time
• The DL will be issued to the applicant on passing the test.

A driving license issued in Mangalore is valid for a period of 20 years or until the age of 50, whichever is early for the applicant. Once the applicant crosses the age of 50, he can obtain a renewed driving license for a period of 5 years.

Procedure for renewal of driving license in Mangalore

Application for renewal of driving license in Mangalore has to be made within 30 days from the date of expiry. If the application is made after the grace period, then the applicant will have to pay an additional fee of Rs. 300. If there is a delay in application for more than 1 year, then the applicant will have to pay a fee of Rs.1000 per year. The applicant cannot apply for renewal of driving license of 5 years of expiry. Application for renewal of driving license can be made online through parivahan.gov.in or directly at the RTO. On the basis of verification of the documents and the form, the renewed DL will be issued to the applicant.

Once the application is processed, the applicant will have to appear for the DL test which will test his driving skills and knowledge about traffic rules and regulations. The DL test is conducted in the presence of a Motor Vehicles Inspector who inspects the applicants driving skills. For the test, the applicant will have to bring his own vehicle and will be asked to drive along an ‘8’ or ‘H’ shaped track. If the applicant drives the vehicle well, without making any mistake, then the DL is issued to him within a period of 2-3 weeks.
