Tripura Road Tax

Road transport is one of the most commonly used modes of commute in Tripura. To ensure that the roads are always maintained in a good condition, the government levies road tax - utilizing the proceeds for the upkeep and development of public roads.

The Tripura Transport Department acts as a regulatory authority for the movement of vehicles in the state. The responsibilities concerning the levying and administration of road tax in the state is vested with the Tripura Transport Department.

Calculating Road Tax in Tripura

In Tripura, the road tax rates are determined by taking into account a number of factors. This includes seating capacity, engine capacity, the unladen weight of the vehicle, type of vehicle used and cost price of the vehicle, among other factors.

Road tax payable for old vehicles is 50% of one-time tax for 5 years. For vehicles from other states that have to be assigned to the state of Tripura, the rate will be 100% above the road tax for the same vehicle category for every 5 years.

Payment of Road Tax in Tripura

Road tax is payable by vehicle owners during the time of registration of a vehicle - either on a yearly basis or once in a lifetime - depending on the vehicle type. Individuals can pay their road tax by visiting a regional transport office (RTO). For making the payment, users will be required to fill up certain forms.
