Honda Gold Wing

General Information:

Ask any automotive guru across the globe to name the most prominent, famous and cult touring motorcycle of all times, and the only words uttered will be Honda Gold Wing. Owing to its innovative and exclusive features and creature comforts, the Gold Wing has made a mark of its own when it comes to long distance touring on two wheels. Being the most expensive offering in Honda’s Indian garage, this massive bike comes with unprecedented equipment levels that are comparable with top spec luxury cars.

Design:

  • One look at the Gold Wing and the only word that comes to mind is the fact that this bike is h-u-g-e
  • Despite the sheer size of the bike, Honda engineers have managed to reduce its weight as compared to the outgoing model, by using a high-strength aluminium frame
  • The bike gets its individuality from exclusive design features like seatback for the pillion rider, an adjustable windscreen, panniers (saddlebags), and a trunk
  • The GL1800 offered in India comes with a dual tone colour of candy prominence red and graphite black, while a simple pearl glare white scheme is also available
  • This massive beast from Honda tips the scales at 2635 mm in length, 945 mm in width, and 1455 mm in height

Power & Performance:

Despite having one of the biggest engines ever been fitted in a production bike, the GL1800 does not possess any roof topping power figures. The reason behind this radical power delivery lies in the fact that the bike was never manufactured keeping performance at a high priority. The engine does deliver a linear torque characteristic across the rev range, which aids its touring abilities.

Braking & Handling:

  • The Gold Wing is squarely aimed at touring at moderate speeds over long distances, and does this with no extra drama
  • The massive dimensions and relatively large kerb weight makes it a pain to ride in heavy city traffic
  • Features like five-position heated grip, electronic cruise control system, independently adjustable heated seats, and a foot-warming system help makes those long journeys comfortable
  • The presence of Combi-Braking System (CBS) and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) ensures that the massive bike stops appropriately under emergency conditions

What To Opt For:

  • A massive and exceptionally premium bike like the Honda Gold Wing desperately demands a Zero-Depreciation cover
  • Owing to the presence of a hefty amount of accessories and equipments on the bike, an accessory insurance pack is highly recommended
  • Opting for a comprehensive cover can further go on to make your life easier with the bike
