Riding two-wheelers with engine capacity of 50CC and above requires a MCWG Driving Licence as well. What is the Meaning and Full Form of MCWG?

MCWG stands for Motor Cycle With Gears. As the name suggests, an MCWG licence allows the user to legally operate a two-wheeler vehicle with engine capacity of 50 CC and above with gears on the Indian roads. This licence covers motorcycles, sports bikes, scooters, and other two-wheeler options that have manual transmissions. Riders in India who wish to ride bikes with gears need to have a MCWG licence.

Eligibility for getting a MCWG licence

In India, in order to obtain a MCWG licence, following criteria must be met:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. (16 in case of MCWOG, MotorCycle without Gears)
  • Applicants should have their learner’s licence for at least 30 days and not more than 180 days.
  • Applicants should meet with the physical fitness criteria for a standard licence (Having proper eye sight, and physically able body)
  • Applicants must pass the practical road exam for MCWG once all the other requirements are met.

Documents required to apply for MCWG Licence

Before applying for a MCWG Licence, make sure to have these documents ready to be submitted for a hassle free application process:

  • Address Proof: Aadhar card, Electricity bill, Gas Bill, Ration Card, Voter ID, Passport or Rental Agreement
  • Age Proof: Aadhar card, Birth Certificate, Passport, PAN Card
  • ID Proof: Aadhar card, PAN Card, Voter ID, Passport
  • Learner’s Licence

Application Process for MCWG licence (Online)

Once you have all the documents ready, you can apply for MCWG Online by following these steps:

  • Visit Parivahan website.
  • Select your state
  • Click on Apply for driving license
  • Enter your Learner’s Licence details with DOB
  • Enter your Personal details
  • Select “MCWG” as the licence type
  • Upload all the necessary documents including the learners licence
  • Pay the prescribed fees
  • Select the available date that suits you for the practical road test at the nearest RTO
  • Download the application form, Acknowledgment split, Forms 1 and 1a (Physical Fitness), and print it
  • Take all the documents and take your practical test on the allotted date and slot at the designated RTO

If you pass the test and all the documents required are proper, you will receive your MCWG Licence delivered to your address.

Application Process for MCWG licence (Offline)

Following steps are required to apply and receive the MCWG licence offline.

  • Visit the nearest RTO, and get an application for driving licence (MCWG)
  • Fill the form with all the details along with the learning licence details.
  • Submit all the required documents mentioned before
  • Sign for physically able to drive
  • Pay the prescribed fees
  • Select the available slot for the practical examination at the RTO
  • Visit the RTO on the designated date with the application and give your practical exam

If everything is proper, and you pass the exam, your MCWG licence will be delivered to your given address.
