Gujarat RTO

Gujarat Regional Transport Office or Gujarat RTO works directly under the Commissionerate of Transport, Government of Gujarat as per Motor Vehicle Act 1988. It carries out functions like issuing driving licences, vehicle registration certificates, fitness certificates, maintaining traffic laws, spreading awareness about road safety, etc. Gujarat RTO carries out these tasks through their spread of offices across the state.

The Gujarat RTO issues permanent Registration Certificate for new vehicles. The process is very simple.

• Apply and Fill form 20
• Download the form after submitting it online and take it to the nearest RTO
• Show Proof of payment of the fees
• Take your vehicle for inspection
• Submit all the required documents

After Verification of documents, RTO will issue a register number that is updated to you through SMS and Email unless a fancy number is requested.

Documents Required for Permanent Registration Certificate (RC) in Gujarat

Following documents are required to be submitted and verified by the RTO for issuance of the RC.

• Form 20
• Sale Certificate in Form No.21
• Road worthiness certificate in Form 22
• ID Proof
• Photograph (2 or 3)
• Insurance certificate
• Address proof
• Bill of entry to customs (incase of imported vehicle)
• Form 22-A if required

After 15 years from the date of registration, the vehicle needs to be re-registered in the Gujarat RTO. This process must be done within 60 days of expiry from the original date. The process for re-registering vehicles in Gujarat RTO consists of following steps.

• Apply by filling form 25
• If any cases are remaining in the name of the vehicle, clear it first
• Clear any tax due on the vehicle
• Submit the required documents
• Pay the prescribed fee
• Take the vehicle for inspection

Documents Required for Renewal of Registration Certificate (RC) in Gujarat

Following documents must be submitted and verified by the RTO before re-registration of your vehicle.

• Original RC book
• PUC certificate
• Insurance certificate
• Form 25 (Duly filled)
• Fitness certificate
• Fee receipt (Paid fees)
• Fitness certificate

If the owner of the vehicle decides to shift to Gujarat from a different state, they need to register their vehicle with the Gujarat RTO. This process required an NOC from the previous RTO, with many forms, and the vehicle must be brought for inspection. After inspection and payment of fees, the vehicle will be registered with Gujarat RTO. These documents are required to be filled and submitted.

If the owner is shifting permanently, a declaration has to be made in the Form FT.

Transfer of ownership in the RC is required if the possession of vehicle is changed. This will save the previous owner of any legal trouble caused by the new owner. The transfers are of 3 types:

• Sale of the vehicle: The vehicle is being sold to another individual or group.
• Inheritance of vehicle: The vehicle is being inherited due to the death of the owner.
• Auction of vehicle: The vehicle is bought from auction by government or other bodies.

Documents Required for Transfer of Ownership Are as Follows:

• Form 29 (Transfer of Possession)

If an RC is lost or spoiled, a duplicate RC can be issued by the RTO. An FIR is required in case the RC is reported to be stolen. Following documents are required to be submitted and verified for duplicate RC.

• Pollution under control certificate
• Valid insurance certificate
• Proof of address
• ID Proof
• Chassis number
• NOC from financer
• Prescribed fees

If a vehicle is being financed in the state of Gujarat, the financier has to be endorsed in the Registration Certificate in Gujarat. Following documents are required to be submitted for endorsement of hypothecation in RC.

• An application for making an entry of hire purchase
• Lease agreement of hypothecation entry in the RC (Form 34)
• Original registration certificate (RC)

If the debt is cleared for the vehicle, then termination of the endorsement of the financier in the registration certificate is required. It requires a NOC from the financer stating that the debt is cleared and the vehicle is now in the owner’s name. Following documents are required for termination of hypothecation in RC.

• For Two-Wheelers: ₹300
• For Three-Wheelers: ₹600
• For Four-Wheelers: ₹600
• For Medium Goods/Passenger Vehicles: ₹1000
• For Heavy Goods/Passenger Vehicles: ₹1500
