10 tips to follow to ride through congested areas

Krishna Desai 17 August 2022

Riding bike in congested areas is not simple lets see few tips for riding in congested areas.

Riding through congested areas

Witnessing drivers ride through traffic and congested areas is common in India. Seeing the vast number of vehicles on the road, you cannot ride as freely as you would want to. However, if you are a new driver, it is important to ensure that you learn to ride safely to avoid causing or being a part of an accident.

Read on to know the 10 tips to follow when riding through congested areas.

  • Keep an eye on the pedestrians: As a responsible driver, it is important that you keep an eye on the pedestrians as many people are not really careful when walking or crossing paths. Maintain focus and keep an eye on the road to avoid causing any accident and reach your destination safely.
  • Stay focused, avoid distractions: Stay focused when riding. Avoid answering any calls, listening to music, or using any other gadgets. These are sources of distractions and in a blink of an eye can lead to great damage to you or the fellow passenger. It is best to keep your phone on silent when riding.
  • Avoid over-speeding: Over-speeding on heavily congested roads is extremely dangerous. Apply light pressure on the accelerator to avoid gaining high speed and causing an accident.
  • Keep a safe distance: When riding ensure that there is enough distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. This will help in preventing collision and frequent break applications.
  • Plan well: Before you plan to ride, check google maps or any other traffic app of your choice to check if the route you are planning to take is congested or not. In case it is, take another route or leave early to ensure that you don’t haste and arrive at your destination on time.
  • Ensure that you are visible and heard: To ensure you are noticed by other riders on the road, stay in the right lane and don’t try to cross paths. Doing this will help you spot other riders from the rear view mirror and side mirrors. Also, make sure that the horn is working in a good condition so that the other riders can hear you.
  • Don’t ride on high gears: When riding through congested areas, keep the gears low as it will get harder to control a bike with high gears. Doing this will ensure that you don’t face any unnecessary gear shifting when riding through traffic heavy routes
  • Follow traffic signals and regulations: When riding through Indian roads, it is necessary to follow traffic signals and regulations as not doing so can lead to fine or imprisonment also in some cases; it may also lead to an accident.
  • Don’t forget to wear protective gears: To prevent yourself from an accident, ensure that you wear protective gears like helmet, riding jacket, gloves, boots, etc.
  • Service your vehicle regularly: Before you take off on your destination, especially in congested areas, make sure that your bike is well serviced. Insect the tyres, check on the engine oil, brakes and other aspects to ensure a smooth ride. Also, breakdown of the bike in the middle of traffic can lead to an increase in traffic and make it difficult for you to reach your destination on time.

conclusion

With the above mentioned tips, make sure that you renew your bike insurance policy as riding without a valid policy is illegal. A two wheeler insurance cover protects your bike against damages, both third party and own damage which can lead to increase in out of pocket expenses.
