TATA Sumo Car

“Sumo” is one of the oldest and strongest cars in India till date. Sumo happens to be one of the early MUV's, SUV's (introduced in India). Not many know that, the name Sumo comes from Sumant Moolgaonkar, a key person who was majorly responsible for the development of Tata Motors. Additionally, the name was also influenced from the Japanese wrestlers indicating size, stability, strength and power.

Tata Sumo was launched in 1994, as a ten seater jeep. It was mainly designed for urban, rural, and military use. Sumo was revolutionary back then, as it came across as the most toughest, spacious and sturdy cars in that time.

The car may come across as a plane Jane, however the makers were not very keen on the styling of the car. The car is rectangular shaped. Sumo comes with 5 door, body on frame and square shaped head lamps. It also has a basic front grille with the company's logo on it. Side profile gets flared wheels arches and large tyres wrapped with alloy wheels. In line with the front and side facets, the rear section too gets a basic treatment.

The interiors are not very appealing and plain sailing. However the best thing about Tata Sumo is that, it is one of the most spacious cars as compared to what we see today. The front seats are very comfortable, the dashboard is clean and cluster free. It accommodates seven people with two additional seats at the back. There is also an option for a nine-seat layout across variants.

Sumo Gold CX

Being the base variant of Sumo’s latest Gold model, it misses out on power steering, which is one of the most basic features available in the other cars of the same category. Its 2956cc engine produces power of 83.83bhp@3000rpm and torque of 250Nm@1000-2000rpm.

Sumo Gold CX PS

This variant is one above the base variant. This does have a power steering however misses out on body color handle. Its 2956cc engine produces power of 83.83bhp@3000rpm and torque of 250Nm@1000-2000rpm.

Sumo Gold EX

This misses out on AC. It does have a power steering, Interior Color, Scheme (Black & Linen), Stylized Instrument Cluster with Chrome Ring, New Facia Switches Fabric Door Trim, Stylish Gear Shift Knob and New Door Pull Handle.

With regards to comfort it has the following Heater System Soft Feel Steering Wheel Front Door Pad with Magazine Pocket & Bottle Holder Floor Console with Hand Brake Spare Wheel below Floor Mobile Holder

Its 2956 engine produces power of 83.83bhp@3000rpm and torque of 250Nm@1000-2000rpm

This is the top end variant that offers power steering, front and rear power windows, Ac, etc.
