“Sumo” is one of the oldest and strongest cars in India till date. Sumo happens to be one of the early MUV's, SUV's (introduced in India). Not many know that, the name Sumo comes from Sumant Moolgaonkar, a key person who was majorly responsible for the development of Tata Motors. Additionally, the name was also influenced from the Japanese wrestlers indicating size, stability, strength and power.
Tata Sumo was launched in 1994, as a ten seater jeep. It was mainly designed for urban, rural, and military use. Sumo was revolutionary back then, as it came across as the most toughest, spacious and sturdy cars in that time.
