E-Challan in Delhi

Home to the capital city of India, Delhi is one of the most populated cities in the world. With a population that high, there are a number of traffic violators that can be found on the roads of Delhi. Over the past 5 years 90,22,711 challans have been issued, with a revenue collection of ₹5,71,43,38,802. This has been made possible with the implementation of e-Challan in the union territory. The e-Challan system is a digital form challan implemented by the Delhi RTO and Traffic Police Department to reduce corruption and increase transparency between the traffic cops and commuters.

How Does Delhi E Challan Work?

E-Challans are issued through the CCTVs installed at highways and signals, and through the handheld devices by traffic cops. Let’s understand how the Delhi e-Challlan system works.

  • E-Challan system uses CCTV cameras that are set up on highways and signals
  • These cameras take video of a violation committed like overspeeding and breaking signals
  • This video is then later reviewed by a traffic cop for legitimacy of the violation
  • If found guilty, a traffic cop will issue an e-Challan to the registered vehicle owner
  • Similarly, traffic cops also issue e-Challans through their handheld devices at various locations
  • This e-Challan can be paid online through various websites and the record is kept by the RTO.
