What is a Car Registration Number?

• RTO Allotted No.
  A Car registration no. is allotted by a particular district’s (RTO) Regional Transport Office
• Owner Identification
  This registration no. is different for every Car as it helps in identifying the car & its owner.
• 30 Days Limit
  After buying a new car, it’s mandatory to conduct its registration with the nearest RTO within 30 days.

  After the registration, the local RTO gives you a unique registration no.
• Attached To Car
  This no. should be attached to your car’s front side & back side after being imprinted on a no. plate.

• The registration no. has a precise format that is ‘AA’ ‘DD’ ‘AA’ ‘DDDD’.
• ‘A’ signifies the letters. ‘D’ signifies the mathematical digits.
• The 1st two letters signify the state’s code, where the Car is registered.
• The following 2 digits denote the district’s code.
• The following 2 alphabets denote the RTO’s ongoing series for Car classification.
• The last 4 digits are to identify your car.

An Example of Car Registration Number Format

• Your Car has a no. UP 32 GA 1989
• UP signifies the state’s code where the car was registered i.e. Uttar Pradesh
• 32 suggests the state’s district where the local RTO is present.
• GA represents the RTO’s sequence no.
• 1989 stands for the car’s unique identification no.

2. Send the respective SMS to the number 7738299899.
3. You’ll get all the car details along with insurance info, RC & FC expiry, make & model, RTO info & Car owner’s name.

No Objection Certificate (NOC)
