If road tax is not paid on time, a penalty of ₹500 per month (or part thereof) is charged until the dues are cleared. In addition, the vehicle may be challaned, detained, or blocked from RC renewal, ownership transfer, or NOC services until full payment is made.
Hypothecation in a Registration Certificate (RC) in Delhi indicates that the vehicle is financed by a bank or financial institution, which holds a legal interest in the vehicle until the loan is fully repaid. The hypothecation details are officially recorded in the RC by the Delhi RTO.
Once the vehicle loan is fully repaid, hypothecation must be terminated (deleted) from the RC to gain complete ownership.
